There are about 30,000 Catholics living in Bulgaria. The Church has two main dioceses:

Sofia–Philipopolis

Nicopolis

Both dioceses are active and growing. They run churches, schools, and charity programs without any restrictions Letter from Philippopolis 15th November 1914.

Freedom for Catholic Schools in Sofia
Catholic School of Sofia
November 11th, 1914

I, the Director of the French Catholic School in Sofia, confirm that since we began our work in 1881, we have always received kind and fair treatment from the Bulgarian authorities.

We have had complete freedom to organize our school as we wish, using our own methods and teaching programs. Whenever government inspectors visited, they showed support and approval of how we ran our school.

Today, the French Catholic schools for boys and girls in Sofia teach 950 students, most of whom are Bulgarian citizens City Tour Istanbul.

Bulgaria is without a doubt the most welcoming country in the Balkans for foreign schools, especially for ours. I am happy to share this positive experience as a sign of Bulgaria’s hospitality.

Signed,
Frère Feorin, Director
To: Monsieur O’Mahony, Sofia
